At Pickhill C of E Primary, our vision is to be a beacon of light at the heart of our community, guiding each child on a journey of discovery and growth. We believe that every child is unique, and we celebrate the individuality that makes them shine. Our school creates a happy learning environment where every child is seen, valued, and supported to reach their full potential. We nurture a love for learning, empowering each child to grow in confidence and knowledge, not just within our school, but in our small, rural community and the wider world. Together, we shine brightly—today and into the future—illuminating paths for our children to, lead, inspire, and make a positive impact on the world around them.
Through our vision, we aim for your children to be:
Aspirational
Loving
Resilient
Through our curriculum we intend our children to be:
Aspirational
At Pickhill CE Primary School, we strive to be aspirational in all that we do, guided by the teachings of Jesus and the values found in the Bible. The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13:45–46) teaches us about the immense value of seeking something truly meaningful—something worth everything we have. Like the merchant who sold all he owned to obtain the precious pearl, we encourage our children to pursue their goals with determination, resilience, and joy.
Our aspirational curriculum is designed to help every child discover their own ‘pearl’—the talents, dreams, and purposes that lie within them. Through rich learning experiences, high expectations, and a nurturing environment, we empower pupils to aim high, seek wisdom, and value knowledge.
Just as the pearl represents the Kingdom of Heaven, we see learning as a journey of great worth—one that shapes character, inspires ambition, and unlocks lifelong potential. And as our pupils grow in confidence and aspiration, they are encouraged to let their light shine—sharing their gifts, celebrating their successes, and making a positive difference in the world around them.
The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price
45“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls,46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Loving
At Pickhill CE Primary School, we believe that love is shown not just in words, but in actions. Inspired by the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37), we learn that being truly loving means going out of our way to help others, showing kindness even when it’s difficult, and treating everyone as our neighbour.
This powerful story reminds us that love has no limits. In our school, we create an environment where every child feels valued, safe, and cared for. We encourage our pupils to be thoughtful friends, active listeners, and kind-hearted learners—looking out for one another and showing love in both big and small ways.
Being loving is also part of our learning journey. We listen with care, work collaboratively, and celebrate each other's successes. In every classroom, children are encouraged to build each other up, just as the Good Samaritan lifted up the one in need.
Through love, we grow together—not just in knowledge, but in character. And when we choose kindness, compassion, and care, we are letting our light shine—brightening the lives of those around us and reflecting the values that make our school so special.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’[b]”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbour?”
30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he travelled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Resilient
At Pickhill CE Primary School, we believe that resilience is about building strong foundations—just like the wise man in the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24–27), who built his house upon the rock. When challenges come, it’s our inner strength, faith, and determination that help us to stand firm.
We teach our children that it’s okay to stumble, as long as we keep going. Being resilient means trying again, learning from mistakes, and never giving up—whether in the classroom, on the playground, or in life. When we show resilience, we are letting our light shine brightly, even in difficult moments.
Our curriculum is designed to stretch and inspire, helping children discover their potential and develop confidence in themselves. Through every lesson and learning experience, we encourage our pupils to persevere, to be brave, and to shine with determination—just like a light built on strong foundations that cannot be shaken.
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Our school song
We place great emphasis on working in partnership with parents, children, governors and the community. Through the School Council, all children are encouraged to take a share in their responsibility developing the school.
We believe in fostering personal and moral values and in respecting different races and cultures. We want our pupils to contribute in a positive way to the environment, community and society they live in.
We believe that if children are happy and confident they become self-motivated.
Synergy Schools is a federation of primary schools in the north of North Yorkshire. The federation was formed in September 2018 when Brompton-on-Swale and Crakehall Church of England Primary Schools successfully shared senior leadership capacity. In July 2021, the federation welcomed Leeming & Londonderry Community Primary and Pickhill Church of England Primary school into the federation.
